About Us

Our mission

Dontae Sharpe, found to be wrongfully convicted for murder in 2019, was deemed ineligible for compensation by the state of North Carolina. State law requires individuals to receive gubernatorial pardons or after review by a three-judge panel. However, time limits on compensation limit the amount of restitution innocent people like Sharpe can receive from the state. Sharpe is not the only such individual affected by the nature of this law, and Pardoned for Innocence hopes to remove this barrier to complete restitution and justice.

Individuals who are wrongfully convicted deserve complete restitution.

The requirement for a gubernatorial pardon for innocence presents a needless barrier to justice.
